The story "To Build a Fire" by Jack Landon shows many examples of humanity's faults by unfolding a story about a man who risked his life on a journey in Alaska and made thoughtful decisions as well as foolish decisions. Some might say that the man is extremely brave. I completely agree with this statement, but I also think he could have made some conscious decisions to help him get through the journey. A little while before the middle of his trip, he decided to take a lunch break. It is below freezing and he decides to take his gloves off and have a nice, relaxing lunch. He smokes his pipe and stays on a log for a while. This is a great example of humanity's faults. He also did not think to make a fire before he ate. Considering all of the circumstances in this certain situation, taking a relaxing lunch break is not a good idea. He needed to get moving and make it to the cabin alive. Unfortunately, he didn't make it in time. I believe that if he made wiser decisions on his trip, he could have made it alive.
The the story "To Build a Fire" by Jack London shows the faults in humanity because the main character thinks he can overcome nature. In the beginning of the story an elderly man told the main character not to go by himself and not to go when it is getting really cold. But he didn't listen to him, he thought that because he was a man he could do anything. But in the inside he was really scared. For example on page 4 when he was crossing the river he let the dog go first because he was scared that he will fall in. An example of the man trying to overcome nature is when he was eating without his mittens and a fire. His fingers were frozen but that didn't stop him from eating. Also the cold air and the snow kept burning out his fire. At the end he knew that he should have listened to the elderly man. It is sort of like how our parents tell us not to do something but we do it anyways.

But the burning brimstone went up his nostrils and into his lungs, causing him to cough spasmodically. The match fell into the snow and went out." This majorly occurs through the book when they are explaining what the old man had said to the young non-experienced man. The major thing the old man said to the miner was to not go up the pass but to wait a couple of days until the weather clears up. IF he would have waited he would have survived possibly. Another thing the man had sad to the miner was to go up with a buddy but the miners ego took over and made a bad choice.
